THE FILM
"You killed them, you bastard fish!"

So sets the bar of craziness in La Mujer Murcielago, which translates to The Bat-Woman. We have here a Mexican film from the mid 60s (with subtitles on my copy), obviously inspired by the U.S. Batman television show. The difference though, is that La Mujer plays it straight (I think). Either way, I’ve got no complaints.

Bat-Woman runs around town in a skimpy bikini costume, has big boobs, and wrestles a lot with her partner Esmeralda. She has two boyfriends, Tony Rocca and Mario Robles, both tough dudes that hold the secret to Bat-Woman’s identity. She works closely with the local police when the going gets tough and is a master of all sports. On top of all this, our heroine drives around in a little black convertible and has swinging parties in her beach house. I know that sounds like enough to fill ten movies, but there’s more!!

Mean old Dr. Williams is extracting spinal fluids from wrestlers so that he can create a red Creature From the Black Lagoon (who lurches around like a crippled Frankenstein monster) and take over the world’s oceans. This doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. The Doctor likes to laugh uncontrollably for long lengths of time and very much enjoys calling Bat-Woman a "filthy bitch."

What’s not to like? You’ve got your Bat-Woman, red gill man creature, lots of fighting, an assistant named "Igor," and cool 60s lounge instrumentals. Throw in some go-go parties and mucho scuba diving and you’ve got yourself a hot time.

AUDIO AND VIDEO
This is a barely watchable gray market VHS. It looks a few generations old, sounds like crap, and things are hard to make out. See the screengrabs for yourself...

EXTRAS
No, unless you count the subtitles ("Let’s go out to the yatch.").

FINAL THOUGHTS
Yes, La Mujer Murcielago is pretty fun. The goods are delivered and things move at a brisk pace. Someone should release this obscurity on DVD, vamos!
